Notice of Rule Change

Backflow prevention devices prevent hazardous substances from entering our public water supply. The New York State Department of Health implements the requirements for this program through the Nassau county Department of Health and local water suppliers. Nassau County Health ordinance Article VI, Section 15(b)(1) requires that we discontinue water service to those users who have failed to properly install, maintain, and test a backflow prevention device.

The District recently amended its Rules and Regulations regarding the annual testing requirement of these devices. Only those homes with underground sprinkler systems are now required to submit annual tests. Homeowner's without underground sprinklers can call the District for a waiver from the annual testing requirement.

Additionally, homeowner's with sprinkler systems can also eliminate the annual testing requirement by installing a pressure vacuum breaker (PVB). If you would like more information regarding the installation of a PVB, please contact Marshall Brandt at 516-466-4413.
