A kitchen timer is
a handy reminder for turning off sprinklers.
Position your
sprinklers so water lands on the lawn and garden, not on
paved area.
Use a coarse spray to reduce evaporation.
Plant
drought-resistant trees and plants. Many
beautiful trees and plants thrive with little watering.
Put a layer of
mulch around tree and plants.
Mulch slows evaporation of moisture and discourages wee
growth.
Use a broom, not a
hose, to clean driveways and sidewalks.
Don't run the hose
while washing your car. Clean
the car with a pail of soapy water. Use the hose
just to rinse off.
Check for leaks in
pipes, hoses, faucets, and couplings. Leaks
outside the house can be as wasteful as leaks inside, so
check frequently and make the necessary repairs.
Be sure the hose faucet is tightly turned off after each
use.
